One hundred and twenty two autos and motos were entered in the 1989 Australian Safari – previously Wynn’s Safari – which left Sydney on Friday 18 August – destination, Darwin!!

The ten day, 6500 kilometres course would not be easy. Nearly half the field (31 out of 55 Motos, and 16 out of 67 Autos – an overall rate of 41%) fell by the wayside as the rugged Australian Outback, and the heat of the competition, took their toll.

There were three winners of the event which was conducted for four wheel drive autos, two wheel drive autos and motor cycles.
