Leg 12 – the course…
From Brisbane the run to the Gold Coast took in the final special stage – the 11km ‘Fat Lady Sings’ – a stage over roads that would soon be swallowed up by Gold Coast housing developers. All competitors treated it with the greatest of respect for the finish was very, very near after 20 days and almost 18000 kilometres around Australia.
Then onto a regroup at Nerang before being despatched in reverse order of merit to the podium finish at Broadbeach.
Post-event scrutiny followed as did the well-deserved celebrations at the gala presentation of awards.
