David & Kate Officer, winners of the Red Centre to Gold Coast Trial
The final leg (430km with only 24km or 15% competitive) was the one all had been waiting for over the past few days – or perhaps not. Competition was low key.
First up there was ‘Off Road Circuit’, a lap of the Goondiwindi Off Road track (a much more enjoyable experience than the Finke Track at Alice Springs). Then a 284km run to ‘Fat Lady Sings’, after refuelling at Warwick, and again Rathdowney, followed by a 125km long run into the mountains near the Gold Coast to the regroup at Carrara Football ground to form up for the final run at Broadbeach.
First vehicle left Goondiwindi at 0700 and arrived at the regroup at 1330 and then left for the finish at 1530. Competitive sections of 15 and 9km. 51 started and finished the Leg.
