These were the ‘average’ Wynn’s Safari regulars – average men/women in/on average machines with an above average will to achieve the goal of finishing the event.
The ‘hotshots’ made up only a small percentage of the field. There were many interesting entries from these ‘average’ people seeking adventure. To them a win was not important – it was an opportunity to pass through the great Australian Outback, it was the involvement of being with others of like soul, the challenge and achievement of doing something that was tough and out of the ordinary humdrum existence into which life sometimes seemed to lead them.
Some would drop out at various times into the event, others would cry but struggle through ….. and many would show colours as brave as any factory supported effort amongst the event leaders.
