Leg 6 – Longreach to Birdsville

The Birdsville Hotel

Like Leg 5, this was another fairly direct day, covering 785km, with a scheduled 73km (9%) competitive.

A section, ‘Noonbah’ was planned prior to the refuel at Stonehenge but was cancelled due to inclement weather a few days previously. Then 144km to the second section, ‘Galway’ north of Windorah. This section was through a cattle property and started with very long, very fast straights and then got tighter. The surface was very rocky and at time vague.

Then a refuel in Windorah, followed by a long grind of 423km along the Birdsville Developmental Road via Betoota to Birdsville.

First vehicle was away at 0600 and arrived at ‘The Birdsville Pub’ at 1545. Competitive sections of 29 and 44km.
53 started the Leg and 53 finished.
